It's funny how our ideas can get around sometimes. I will hear a song on the radio that sounds amazingly similar to one I've written... but in the true spirit of pessimism, I'm probably like poor Ringo Starr used to be when he was with the Beatles. He would write a song and present it to the band, and they would say "Oh, that's such-and-such by so-and-so!" I know my lyrics are definitely original, but the melodies? Hmmm.
Too bad someone else had the same inspiration as you, or discovered a reference to your idea and got inspired by it. Arrrrgh.
Maybe it's time for us to start putting ideas into short stories or onto CDs and getting them copyrighted things...
